La ciudad de Zaragoza fue fundada en el año 14 a. de J.C.Nació como  "Colonia Inmune" es decir gozaba de varios privilegios entre los que destacaban  el derecho a acuñar moneda y la exención del pago de impuestos.Fue bautizada con el nombre de "Colonia Caesaraugusta" y fue poblada por legionarios romanos que habían participado en las campañas contra los fieros e indómitos  cántabros.

The city of Zaragoza was founded in the year 14 B.C.It was born as an "Inmune Colony" ,that is to say ,it held a lot of priviledges among them  the right to mint coins and the exemption of taxes.It was named as "Colonia Caesaraugusta" and was populated with Roman legionaries who had participated in the campaigns against the fierce and untamed  Cantabres

 Pronto alcanzaría gran esplendor debido a su situación estratégica  y al río Ebro ya que en su orilla se fundaría uno de los puertos fluviales más importantes del Imperio Romano.

Todavía pueden encontrarse vestigios romanos  relativamente bien conservados como la Casa del Puerto,el Foro, la Cloaca Máxima ,las Termas o el Teatro.Merece la pena visitar estas ruinas que se encuentran ubicadas muy cerca unas de otras .


Soon It would reach great explendor  due to its strategic situation and also to river Ebro since it would be constructed one of the most important  fluvial ports of the Roman Empire .

Today a lot of Roman remains can be found  well preserved such as the House of the Port.The Major Sewer ,the Thermal Baths or the Theatre.It worths while to visit these ruins which are very close to each other.

La Casa del Puerto

Ésta era una edificación donde se almacenaban mercancías  y se realizaban transacciones comerciales ,esta edificación se encontraba encima del muelle del puerto y comunicaba con el foro .

The House of the Port

This was a building where goods were kept and also commercial transactions were made ,  this construction was over the docks and had a connection to the Forum.

Para proteger el muelle y el foro anexo al mismo  de la fuerza del río,los romanos construyeron unos cimientos de más de 5 metros de profundidad con tres muros  de contención  ,uno formado con sillares de piedra de grandes dimensiones ,otro central de tierra compactada y un tercero que daba a la plaza del foro realizado con  mortero.

To protect  the docks and the forum next to it from the force of the river  ,the Romans made foundations more than 5 meters deep .These foundations had three retaining walls.One was made with big quarry stones ,a central one made up with compacted sand and a thrid one next to the forum made up with mortar.

La actividad del puerto era frenética ,ánforas de vino y aceite, pieles ,trigo podían verse habitualmente en estas instalaciones. En el museo del puerto fluvial hay una maqueta que ayuda a entender el  aspecto que tenía .

The activity of the port was a frentic one ,wine and oil anphoras ,leather and  wheat could be seen everywhere at these facilities .At the fluvial museum there is a mock-up which helps to understand how it looked like.

Debajo el Puente de Piedra realizado  hace más de 2000 años y todavía sigue en pié !!!.

Below the Stone Bridge made more than 2000 years ago and still stands !!!.
